Itinerary for the Vinicunca Mountain + Red Valley Tour

  • Pickup from your hotel in Cusco

    We start early, picking up tourists from their accommodations in Cusco to form the group. Then, we board a modern minivan for a trip of approximately 2 hours to the town of Cusipata (80 km).

  • Breakfast in Cusipata

    Upon arrival in Cusipata, we stop at the La Montana tourist restaurant to enjoy a delicious buffet breakfast. You can savor bread, coffee, hot infusions, yogurt, cereals, fruits, pancakes, tequeños, eggs, butter, jam, and more.

  • Trip to Phulawasipata Camp

    After breakfast, we continue on a dirt road uphill for approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes until reaching Phulawasipata camp, located around 4,800 meters above sea level.

  • Hike to Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain

    From Phulawasipata, the final 3 km hike begins. The trail is mostly flat with a last uphill stretch, usually taking about 2 hours. Optional: You can rent a horse for this hike (not included, approx. 60 soles). The guide will accompany you throughout the hike, explaining the origin of the mountain’s colors and cultural facts.

  • Summit of Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain

    At the summit, 5,200 meters above sea level, you will enjoy a spectacular and unique view, perfect for unforgettable photos. The group will stay for about one hour at this location.

  • Visit to the Red Valley

    After time at Vinicunca, we will spend about 30 minutes exploring the nearby Red Valley, famous for its striking reddish slopes caused by minerals in the soil — a landscape that looks like it’s from another planet.

  • Return hike to Phulawasipata Camp

    The return hike is easier and downhill, along less demanding trails until reaching the camp where the minivan awaits.

  • Buffet lunch in Cusipata

    Back in Cusipata, enjoy a buffet lunch at La Montana restaurant with typical Peruvian dishes such as hot soups, rice, pasta, legumes, lomo saltado, trout ceviche, fried fish, tequeños, salads, fruits, and more.

  • Return to Cusco and end of tour

    Finally, we travel back to Cusco (about 2 hours) to end the tour at a central plaza or your hotel doorstep around 5:00 p.m.
